Kristen’s passion for horses and dogs began at a very early age. Growing up in Lutherville, Maryland, her exposure to animals was extensive. Her family bred Golden Retrievers and brought in many strays throughout the years. Kristen started riding horses at the tender age of 3 and her first mount was a buckskin Quarter Horse named, Buck. She still remembers riding him around in a round pen while her family patiently looked on. As she grew older, Kristen would spend many nights reading books on horses and dogs and studying about different breeds and conformation.
After graduating from the University of Delaware in 1992, Kristen traveled extensively and eventually ended up in Middleburg, Virginia where many of her first award-winning photos where taken.
A multiple award winner for her art, poetry and stories, she has her most recent story published in Horse Tales for the Soul, Vol. III, by Bonnie Marlewski-Probert. Kristen has spoken at many seminars about photography and is well respected for her inherent sense of timing and extreme patience. Aside from capturing the apparent artistic beauty of horses and dogs, many of Kristen’s photos masterfully bring out their split second expressions that can be so easy to miss, but yet that truly mark individual character.
Four years ago she formally started her photography business, namely KristenAmacherZeman Photography and KAZ Creations, focusing mainly on black and white photos of horses and dogs. Her work can be found in shops in areas such as Middleburg, VA and Baltimore, Md.
She and her husband Mike, a golf pro, currently reside outside of Annapolis, Maryland with their extended family of horses and dogs, where Kristen remains an avid rider and rescuer of horses.
